Dicyclopentadiene (DCPD) which provides a camphor like odor is a white crystalline composite which is produced from petroleum products which includes naphtha, crude oil, and gas oils by steam cracking process. Due to strict regulations towards styrene emissions from European Union, World Health Organization, and United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has forced the manufacturers to minimize the emission of styrene. Thus, DCPD which is a dimer of cyclopentadiene, helps to reduce the emission of styrene by 35 to 40 percent in polyester resins, poly dicyclopentadiene, hydro-carbon resins, and others, which are used in the production of equipment for construction, pipes, automotive body parts, large containers among others. DCPD also has its major application in the production of ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber, adhesives, paints, inks, and varnishes among others.
